COVID Information

Kids and COVID

Texas Pediatric Mental Health understands the concern parents have regarding protecting their children from COVID. The medical profession has learned a lot about this virus and how it impacts the body, but there is still much that is unknown. Texas Pediatric Mental Health follows guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics, including their recommendation of vaccinating children ages 6 months and older. Boosters are available for children 5 years and older.

If you have questions about this vaccine, please talk with your healthcare provider.

COVID Test

Going on vacation or just returned from one? Think your child may have been exposed to COVID? We offer three types of COVID tests:

COMPASSIONATE

Detects presence of COVID virus. This test collects samples from each nostril using a swab.

QUALITY

Detects current COVID infection. This is the most accurate test we offer. It’s done by collecting samples from the back of the throat and nose using a swab.

RELIABLE

Determines recent or prior COVID infection. It is done by collecting blood samples, usually by pricking a finger and testing the sample in a lab to determine if a patient has developed antibodies.

Rapid Antigen Test

Detects presence of COVID virus. This test collects samples from each nostril using a swab.

Molecular (PCR) Test

Detects current COVID infection. This is the most accurate test we offer. It’s done by collecting samples from the back of the throat and nose using a swab.

Antibody (blood) Test

Determines recent or prior COVID infection. It is done by collecting blood samples, usually by pricking a finger and testing the sample in a lab to determine if a patient has developed antibodies.

COVID Vaccinations

Per CDC guidelines, we offer COVID vaccinations for children 6 months and older.
